30 Years of Collecting in … Celebrating 30 years of brilliance

Information Technology

Weaving the Web In the early years of Murdoch University teaching in Computer Science focused on programming languages, such as Basic and Fortran and the application of computers in statistical analysis. In1985 the Computer Science Programme expanded to include Information Science, the study of data collection, file organization and database organization and management. Information Science also extended the study to the application of Computing and Information Systems into an increasing number of scientific and other disciplines.

As the technology of Information transformed our ways of communicating, the format of communication also changed from being predominately print to predominately electronic. Although the books in this display are in print format, the library now purchases access to Electronic books, such as Safari Tech Books Online.

The display aims to reflect the threads which weave through the development of programming languages, to the importance of information technology in every area of society. The books also include reports and other discussions of the issues which resulted from this explosion of information and the technology involved. Topics covered include:

Programming Languages
Computer Applications
Personal Computers
Leading Innovators in Information Technology
Information Systems
Social Comment

Database Management
Computer Security
World Wide Web
Games Design Technology
