Previous Resource of the Week - ACM Digital Library
The Association for Computing Machinery is widely recognised as one of the premier organisations for computing professionals. ACM Digital Library provides full text access to every article published by ACM, including over 50 years of archives. The content includes journal articles, conference proceedings and much, much more.

Watch the Olympics in the Library's Learning Common (Aug 08)
During the Olympics two of the big TV screens in the library will be switched onto the games broadcast. Come to the Learning Common NW2 and NW3 (cafe) to have a look!

Wiley Interscience and Blackwell Synergy merger (July 08)
Blackwell Synergy has merged with Wiley Interscience and the database is no longer available in the name of Blackwell. The content now appears on Wiley InterScience.

Previous Resource of the Week - Annual Reviews (July 08)
So many resources to choose from ... but something hugely valuable to many students and staff is Annual Reviews. AR is the perfect place to find an overview of a topic for an essay or project in the social, life, physical or biomedical sciences. These authoritative highly cited reviews are written by experts from topics selected by distinguished scholars.

Previous Resource of the Week - SourceOECD (July 08)
We know that money makes the world go round but how does global economics affect policy, social change and sustainability? How does expenditure on tertiary education in Australia compare with other OECD countries? SourceOECD is on online library of statistical databases, books and periodicals – a comprehensive, fulltext repository of economic and social data with accompanying forecasts and analyses.

Previous Resource of the week – Comics/Graphic Novels (June 2008)
Murdoch library has been collecting comic book material since 1975 with a strong emphasis on Australian material, the genre stories of Science Fiction and Fantasy and on comics with strong representations of women. All book-like hardcover material is added to the open shelves and can be found at 741.5+ on SWL2. All flimsy comic book material and rarer works are in Special Collections. Please direct enquires, beyond catalogue information, to Grant Stone the Special Collections Librarian (0412 170 665).

EBSCOhost 2.0 has arrived (May 2008)
The new EBSCOhost 2.0 interface is now available to search. The upgrade has provided greater ease of use and new functionality that incorporates the latest technological advances. See details, screen shots and online demos.

Previous Resource - Gartner (May 2008)
You can read up-to-the-minute emerging technology reports prepared by Gartner, a group that advises CIOs of large companies about leading industry products and future trends. Gartner are known for their Hype Cycles, Magic Quadrants and Marketscopes. Click here for access via the database pages to the subscription-only area of Gartner’s home page.

Extended Opening Hours on Saturday May 31 (May 2008)
For those who are looking for a place to relax prior to their exams, or to do some last minute study, the Library will be opening 8:00am - 5:00pm on Saturday May 31, 2008. If you need some quiet, South Wing 4 is a silent zone. Some past exam papers are also available online for you to look at.

Previous Resource - The Oxford dictionary of political quotations (May 2008)
“I’m a bastard. But I’m a bastard who gets the mail through. And they appreciate that” - Paul Keating quoted in The Oxford dictionary of political quotations which contains many more salty and colourful Keatingisms. Find it in the reference collection now. LINK LEVEL 3 R 320.03 OXF 1996.

New Library Resource - MIMS Online (May 2008)
MIMS Online provides access to information on over 4,500 prescription and non-prescription drugs. It is a compilation of information supplied by pharmaceutical manufacturers, government bodies and various non-government organisations. Access is via the Library Catalogue or the Database pages.

Proceedings of the Old Bailey – London’s Central Criminal Court, 1674 to 1913 (May 2008)
This fully searchable database contains transcripts of 197,745 criminal trials held at London's Central Criminal Court between 1674 (just after the Great fire) and 1913. It is a treasure trove of social, legal and family history. People from all over the world can access the database to discover information about their ancestors’ criminal past, whilst scholars can use it to gain a picture of ordinary non-elite life and as a means to track trends in criminal law. Access the Proceedings of the Old Bailey online.

TVNews database now available (April 2008)
The Library has access to TVNews, which indexes Australian TV news, current affairs and selected documentaries from the free-to-air networks. The digitised video content is available online. There are currently almost fifty programmes including Four Corners, Media Watch, Compass, and Insight. The Programme list is available here.

Library Planning (Mar 2008)
The Library invites your input to our planning for services out to 2010. Link to our blog to provide us with your ideas about what we should be doing to enhance your learning, teaching and research experiences.

Reciprocal Agreement with DAFWA (Mar 2008)
Murdoch University Library has entered into a reciprocal arrangement with the Department of Agriculture and Food Western Australia (DAFWA) Library whereby Murdoch staff and students and DAFWA staff may borrow from one another’s collections. This will enhance access to resources for both organisations.

Second Life Workshops (Feb 2008)
Kathryn Greenhill, Murdoch University's Emerging Technologies Specialist, is conducting workshops on Second Life where she will cover creating a Second Life avatar and doing more with it. The sessions are on Friday 28 March 2008 and repeated 18 April and 23 May, at 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. Bookings essential.

Postgraduate Workshops (Feb 2008)
Beginning Monday March 3, the Library will be offering a series of workshops for research postgraduate students as part of the Graduate Research Education and Training (GREAT) program. These include subject focussed database workshops, as well as workshops on the EndNote software. These sessions are highly recommended to all research postgraduate students, and provide an opportunity to meet with your subject librarian.

Come along and join us in an O Week Library tour, where a friendly Library staff member will take you on a tour of the Library and the Learning Common, a wonderful and inviting support and learning space. Find out all about the fantastic print and electronic resources in the Library, and how you can access the 24 hour Learning Common area.

Library tours will run at 10am, 1pm, and 3pm Monday – Thursday of O Week, and 10am on Friday. Bookings must be made at the Information Caravan on Bush Court, and tours depart from this point.

Vet Library Refurbishment (Jan 2008)
The Vet Library has reopened. There is still some minor work to do before the refurbishment is completed, but access to the collection and most services is now available.

Annual Reviews journal collection (Jan 2008)
The library now has online access to authoritative, analytic review journals in 33 disciplines within the Biomedical, Physical, and Social Sciences. Annual Reviews publications are among the most highly cited in scientific literature. Full text is available from Vol. 1 onwards.
