The floor to ceiling panels that are being erected in Link 3 are for the proposed ‘Art Walk’  which  will display works from the Murdoch Collection and form the aisle between the reference collection, the new journal display and seating.

Thursday 19 April 2007

Work has started on the remodelling of Link Level 3. The reference collection is being boxed, and the PCs will be relocating to the newly completed area next to the Reference Desk, North Wing Level 3 today. Access to the South Wing via the Link Level 3 will be maintained during the remodelling.

Link Level 2 is currently closed. Access to the South Wing is available via Link Level 3 only.

What’s happening at the moment?
Re-roofing the North Wing of the Library is well underway though it will probably be sometime next week before we can resume using the entrance to the Library off Bush Court. In the meantime there is a temporary entrance to the Library from the ECL courtyard. The closest car park is number 7; there is also a ‘safe walkway’ through to the temporary entrance from the west side of Bush Court. This is accessible from Chancellery car park 3. During the re-roofing there is no access to the North Wing, however most Library services are available with staff service points being temporarily located in the South Wing. These include the Enquiries & Loans and Reference Services, and Library staff are on hand to provide assistance with relocated services.

Loans and other services
The temporary Enquiries and Loans service desk is just inside the temporary entrance to the Library. Books can be borrowed or returned to this desk (after hours please return books to the special bin located on the eastern veranda of Bush Court). Reserve services also operate from the Enquiries & Loans desk, staff will collect required items from the relocated Reserve collection.

Other service relocations include Newspapers to South Wing 2; New Book Display and New Journals to foyer of South Wing 3; and photocopiers to South Wing Level 3.

Collections
Relocation of collections to the South Wing is continuing and most have now been shifted to the floors on which they will be finally located; though many journals are still boxed and some books are still being shifted on the floors. Current status of collections:

Friday 15 December 2006

The excellent progress continues.

Books
All of the 500s and 600s have now moved to South Wing 2. South Wing 2 is now completed (apart from permanent shelf markers). This is a considerable achievement. Thanks to the shelving teams, the coordinators (Lauren Davies, George Young and Ferdinand Gomes) and Pam Mathews the floor coordinator.

000- 305’s have been relocated to South Wing 4. Early next week the 340s will be brought down to South Wing 3 (currently shelving is being finalised in the area for the 340 books). Then the remainder of the 305 - 329s will be brought up to South Wing 4, and the remaining 330s to 399 and G collection redistributed on the floor.

Journals
All have been boxed and will start to be unpacked once there is sufficient space on South Wing 1. A reminder that during the re-roofing the 500s and 600s on North Wing 2 will be collected for patrons. Please enquire at the temporary Enquiry and Lending Services desk.

Newspapers
The newspaper display will soon be relocated to South Wing Level 2 (outside the Arts Librarians offices). Patrons can read papers on the first group of study tables located towards the windows.

Reserve
Next Wednesday the Reserve collection will be moved to the Collection Services work area so that it is accessible during the re-roofing when the North Wing will be out of bounds.

Staff moving
On Monday 18 December all Enquiry and Lending Services and Admin staff will be leaving their offices in preparation for the building of the Learning Common. Enquiry and Lending Services staff will move to Room 3.013 on South Wing level 3 (old Elibrary 3). Admin staff will move to the ECL work area. Phones will be transferred thought to the new locations. Collection Services staff with great relief will embark on their final move to their new desks.

Desks
The Enquiry and Lending Services, Reference and IT Help desks will remain on North Wing level 3 until 22 December. After that they will be relocated to the temporary entrance area adjacent to the door coming in from the ECL courtyard. Building work in the (old) Library Admin area will commence on Monday 18 th so there could be some noise and disruption on North Wing level 3.
