Institutional Digital Repositories@Murdoch – the RUBRIC Project

The Department of Education Science and Training under its Systemic Infrastructure Initiative (DEST/SII) has funded two projects ARROW and APSR to assist Australian universities in the implementation of institutional repositories.

The Library is part of the DEST/SII sponsored RUBRIC Project, another repositories initiative, which aims to develop sustainable infrastructure for the management and dissemination of institutional digital resources. RUBRIC is managed by the University of Southern Queensland, and Murdoch participates as a member of Innovative Research Universities Australia (IRUA) together with Newcastle, Macquarie and Flinders universities. Other partners are the University of New England, the University of the Sunshine Coast, and Massey University in New Zealand.

As part of the project the Library will:

investigate the suitability of a range of software options for managing digital resources such as eprints, theses and dissertations, and other digital research materials;
begin building a repository using existing available digital resources;
in discussion with the University community, develop guidelines for its development.

Internationally, universities in the UK and North America have started implementing institutional repositories in the last few years.
Examples are University of Glasgow ePrints Service and DSpace at MIT

The RUBRIC Project will run over the next eighteen months, and updated information will be provided from this web page.
