Guide to using TVNews and RequestTVTVNews and RequestTV are licenced databases that provide access to all programs broadcast by the free-to-air TV channels. All programs on the free-to-air channels have been recorded 24/7 since late 2007; programs from any one day’s broadcasting are usually available by the next. Links to specific segments in the TVNews database can be made from a unit’s LMS site. Material in either database can be delivered via Lectopia. The TVNews and RequestTV databases are made available to staff and students of the University under the University’s Screenrights licence. What is the difference between TVNews and RequestTV?TVNews is specifically dedicated to approximately 50 television news, current affairs, and documentary programs recorded from all the free-to-air TV channels; it is updated daily. Rather than entire programs, TVNews is a collection of individual segments from each program; if you want only one specific story from, for instance, Foreign Correspondent you can download it from TVNews – if you want the whole program you can get it on DVD from RequestTV. Using the TVNews database enables staff of the University to:
RequestTV records all programs shown by the free-to-air TV channels and makes them available for purchase on DVD within a day or so of broadcast – if you want the whole of an episode of Foreign Correspondent or Home and Away, a copy of King Kong or No Direction Home, you will find it in the Request TV catalogue. How do I?Link from my LMS siteFor TVNews, you need to find the particular programme you want, click on the Complete Record, and copy the url that’s shown in the To cite this article information into the LMS.Copy a program to my computerWhen you find the program that you want click on the link to the video found at the bottom of the record.
