Offshore StudentsWelcome to the Library!Murdoch University offshore students are entitled to use most of the Library's electronic resources and some library services. In many cases, library services are provided by our offshore partners and it is recommended that you contact your course coordinator to see if arrangements are already in place with a local library. External students living offshore should refer to Library Services for External Students which includes the supply of documents from Murdoch University Library and in some cases other libraries. Offshore Access to ResourcesMost of the Library's databases, e-journals and electronic course materials are available from offshore locations. Connecting to a database or e-journalAny database marked (Murdoch IP / Proxy) may be searched from offshore.

Finding Material for Your Course and AssignmentsSee also Beginning Your Research Journal ArticlesFinding a known articleIf you have a citation for a journal article, or have been asked to research from a particular journal, check to see if it is held in the library by doing a TITLE search in the Catalogue. Type all or part of the journal title in the search box.You can access any journal available in electronic format. Finding articles on a topicThe Library's databases include indexes to journal articles and full text collections of materials such as journals, newspapers, statistical publications, encyclopaedias and legal materials. You can search the databases for information on specific subjects, using key words or concepts relevant to your research topic. Databases are accessible from the Library Home Page. Use the Library Portal to search up to ten databases at once. Accessing journal articlesIf an article is available electronically in the Murdoch collection, please access it directly. If the item is held in print at Murdoch or in another Library's collection, you can request an electronic copy using the Document Delivery service.Electronic Course MaterialsCourse Materials include reading material identified by your lecturers as important for your Unit. Offshore students and staff may access any Electronic Course Materials.
Electronic materials will be listed in the Library Catalogue with other material available for your unit. If an electronic copy is available the following message will appear next to the catalogue entry: ELECTRONIC RESERVE -- -- To access an electronic document:
BooksThe Library does not send books to offshore students. However, we will supply electronic copies of book chapters via our Document Delivery service. You can also use the Library Catalogue to identify relevant books which may be available in your local library. The Library Catalogue includes an expanding number of e-books, which you may access from offshore. Search for books by author or title if known, or use a keyword search to find books on a topic. Subject GuidesSubject guides have been written by specialist subject librarians to help you find your way through the variety of resources that are either available from Murdoch University Library or free of charge via the Internet. Citing Your ReferencesIt is essential that any references used in your research projects are cited correctly. A comprehensive bibliography is an indication of how widely you have read for the topic. This record also allows any relevant papers to be found at a later date. The Library's publication, How To Cite References, outlines a number of citation systems. Please remember that there are specific citation rules for electronic resources. The guides give examples of these materials. Exam PapersExam papers are listed under the unit code in use at the time of the exam.
