Computer AccessFor help with any library computer related problem, see the staff at the IT Service Desk.On campus - In the LibraryThe library has a number of computer workstations which are available for students and staff to access electronic resources. These are in the Learning Common or scattered around the library building. All machines are PCs, running Windows XP. Use of Library computers is subject to the Murdoch University Standards and Guidelines for all Users of University Computing and Network Facilities. These computers can be used for accessing My Library (which includes searching the Library catalogue, checking your borrower record, recalling materials and accessing databases to find references and journal articles), or searching the internet for research materials for study purposes. PrintingMost computers allow printing, which you can pay for using the same system as for photocopying.Listening to lecturesHeadphones can be borrowed from the Enquiry and Loans Desk for listening to lectures in the library.WirelessWireless access is available in the Library. If you do not have a wireless card for your laptop, you can borrow them from the Enquiry and Loans Desk. If you need help with setup to access wireless, please see staff at the IT Service Desk.
On Campus - Outside the LibraryAll student labs around campus allow access to library resources. Student labs require you to login, using your Murdoch Username and Murdoch Password. If you are trying to connect to remote internet resources, except the library databases, you will need to turn on the Gateway.University staff can use any machine connected to the University network which has been logged in, to access most library resources. Off CampusMany library resources are available off campus. This web site is the gateway to our resources, so you will find links and information about them here under the appropriate headings. You can get general information about accessing the university remotely from the Student IT website, and for instructions on setup, see http://wwwcoms.murdoch.edu.au/dialup/setup.html.There is more specific information about using resources such as Databases, The Library Portal or the Library Catalogue. Most resources can be accessed directly over the internet using your own ISP connection, by connecting through My Library, and locating the database or ejournal in the catalogue. Alternatively you can connect via the Databases pages, and enter your Murdoch Username and Library PIN when prompted. A very small number require you to be part of the Murdoch IP range. Check the information attached to the specific database on the database page. In this case, you will need to dialup to the internet through the University's modem pool. For dialup help, please see staff at the IT Service Desk. If you have specific queries, please direct them to the Library's Reference Desk, from where they will be forwarded if necessary. |
