Computer Access

For help with any library computer related problem, see the staff at the IT Service Desk, North Wing Level 2 in the library. You can also check Current Network & Services Status.

Use of Library computers is subject to the Murdoch University Standards and Guidelines for all Users of University Computing and Network Facilities.

On campus - In the Library

The library has a number of computers available for students and staff to access library resources. These are in the Learning Common and other areas of the library building. All computers are PCs, running Windows XP.

The computers in the Learning Common at Link Level 2 Level are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for all Murdoch staff and students . Further information on Learning Common.

Fast Track Computers

Fast Track computers are located on Library Learning Common North Wing Level 3 and at each level in South Wing. You do not need to login to these computers. You can access:

  • Murdoch University websites, including the Library Catalogue, Databases and the Library Portal
  • Other WA public university websites, including UWA, ECU and Curtin
  • CSIRO

You cannot access other external websites on the Fast Track computers.

Community Access Computers

Seven Community Access computers are located on Library Learning Common North Wing Level 3, adjacent to the Reference desk. Full Database and Library Catalogue access is available. A 30 minute time limit applies to these computers.

Other Computers

All other computers in the Library and Learning Common require you to login, using your Murdoch Username and Password. If you are connecting to external internet resources, except the Library Databases and the Library Portal, you will need to connect to Gateway.

You will not be charged against your quota for the following websites even if you are connected to Gateway:

  • Library Databases, the Library Portal and the Library Catalogue
  • Murdoch University websites
  • Australian public universities (.edu.au)
  • Western Australian government websites (.wa.gov.au)

Printing

Most computers allow printing, which you can pay for using the same system as for photocopying.

Listening to lectures

Headphones can be borrowed from the Enquiry and Loans Desk for listening to lectures in the library.

Wireless

Wireless access is available in the Library . If you do not have a wireless card for your laptop, you can borrow them from the Enquiry and Loans Desk. If Murdoch staff and students need help with setup to access wireless, please see staff at the IT Service Desk.

On Campus - Outside the Library

All student labs around campus allow access to library resources. Student labs require you to login, using your Murdoch Username and Murdoch Password. If you are trying to connect to remote internet resources, except the library databases, you will need to turn on the Gateway.

University staff can use any machine connected to the University network which has been logged in, to access most library resources.

Off Campus
