Library Authentication

Using Your Murdoch Username and Password or Library User ID and PIN

Authentication is required to use the following Library services:
  • accessing My Library (to see when your loans are due back, to renew your loans, to see what's happened to the item you recalled/requested, to save searches and set up email alerts)
  • requesting an item that is on loan
  • accessing Electronic Course Materials (Electronic Reserve)
  • accessing databases and ejournals from off campus

You will need to use either your Murdoch Username and Murdoch Password, or your Library User ID and Library PIN, depending on which category you are in.


Murdoch Username and Password

If you are in one of the following categories you can use your Murdoch Username and Password.
Login using the box headed "Murdoch Staff and Students, MIT and OUA Students".

  • Murdoch students and staff
  • Murdoch Institute of Technology (MIT) students and staff
  • Open University Australia (OUA) students enrolled in units taught by Murdoch University.

Your Murdoch Username is your student or staff number.
Your Murdoch Password is the password allocated to you when you commenced your studies or employment at Murdoch. It is the same one you use on most systems and services at Murdoch, including MyInfo and WebCT.

Staff who are not recorded in the Human Resources system but have an entry in the MAIS database (MAIS Others) are not able to use their Murdoch Usename and Password at present. They will need to use their User ID and Library PIN.

Library User ID and PIN

If you are in one of the following categories, you will need to use your User ID and Library PIN.
Login using the box headed "All Other Patrons ".

  • Reciprocal Borrowers
  • Community Members
  • Alumni Members
  • Staff members not recorded in the Human Resources System (MAIS Others)

Note: Reciprocal Borrowers, Alumni Members and Community Members do not have access to Electronic Course Materials.

Reciprocal Borrowers:

  • Edith Cowan University
    Your ECU student or staff number preceded by T, eg T654321
  • UWA
    Your UWA student or staff number preceded by U, eg U246802
  • Curtin
    Your Curtin student or staff number preceded by W, eg W987654
  • Notre Dame
    Your Notre Dame student or staff number preceded by N, eg N123456
  • Challenger and Central TAFEs
    The barcode on your Murdoch University Library card.

Murdoch College staff members or students
Your borrower code preceded by MC, eg MCWON2

Alumni Members
The barcode on your Murdoch University Library card.

Community borrowers
The barcode on your Murdoch University Library card.

Community borrowers are those people who are not staff or students of Murdoch University or another tertiary institution who have borrowing rights at the Library. They include clergy and lay members of the Anglican and Uniting Church, students at the Australian Institute for Holistic Medicine, students at other TAFE colleges (does not include Challenger TAFE or Central TAFE - they join as reciprocals), residents at St. Ives Retirement Estate, members of the Foundation for Continuing Veterinary Education, Opening Doors students and members of the public who have paid a joining fee to borrow from the Library

MAIS Others
Your User ID is your Murdoch Username.

What is my Library PIN?

You need to create a PIN, and enter it into the Library system before you can access the secured functions listed above.

The requirements for creating a Library PIN have changed.

Your PIN cannot contain:

  • a character repeated 3 or more times (for example, 111, 4444)
  • a set of 2, 3 or 4 characters repeated 2 or more times (for example, 1212, 123123, 12341234)

Your PIN should consist of 4-8 characters.

Creating your new PIN

  • Go to My Library.
  • Enter your User ID in the box headed "All other Patrons" and click on "Submit".
  • You will be prompted to enter a new PIN twice. Click on submit and your PIN will be recorded.
  • You can also set up your PIN when you go to access a secured function on the system.

Changing your PIN

  • Login to My Library using your current PIN.
  • Select "Modify your PIN".
  • You will be prompted to enter your current PIN and your new PIN twice.
  • Click on "Submit" to complete the process.

What do I do if I forget my PIN?

Contact one of the Library service desks, or the Student IT Helpdesk, and your PIN can be deleted. You can then follow the steps above to re-enter your PIN.
